Although Flash has been widely used in the past for the development of dynamic and interactive websites , in recent years this proprietary platform has been slowly abandoned with the arrival of HTML5.In this context , Google has announced that support will be eliminated in new versions of Chrome . In current versions of Chrome, the Flash website runs on a click-to-run basis. Starting with Chrome 76 — released in July 2019 — Flash will be disabled by default, meaning users will have to enable the plugin in their settings before even entering a click-to-run state.A year ago, just under 7% of websites used Flash technology, and in 2011, 28.5% of websites used Flash. Google's figures echo these. During a security conference in San Diego, Google's CTO said that the number of people viewing a page in Chrome with Flash has decreased from 80% in 2014, to less than 8% in 2018.

Three years ago, 80% of desktop Chrome users visited a site with Special Data Flash every day. Today, usage is only 17% and continues to decline.Flash usage decline graphSource: androidpolice.comWhat is Adobe FlashMacromedia's Adobe Flash has for many years been one of the authoring software used to develop websites and animation programs based on vector graphics. The software has been widely used for its speed (vector-based animations that can adapt to different display sizes and resolutions) and the smoothness of graphics rendering. Flash files, unlike animated but rasterized GIFs and JPEGs, are compact, efficient, and designed for optimized delivery. For 20 years, Flash has helped shape the way you play games, watch videos, and run applications on the web. But in recent years, Flash has become less common and eventually abandoned entirely. Here is the evolution that its logo has had from its birth to today.Source: streamshark.ioBecause Flash is deadLet's remember that the first one was Steve Jobs a few years ago, at the launch of the iPAD who decreed its death, providing a whole series of arguments for iOS's choice not to support Flash. The two main arguments supporting this choice were essentially that there are newer and better video formats and that Flash is riddled with security and performance issues.

Flash is no longer used on websitesFlash's problems have always been known, and can be summed up with:proprietary software : to develop applications you need to purchase a proprietary platform from Adobe, unlike all other solutions that can be developed using open source software;to run in browsers it requires the installation of a plugin, the macromedia flash player ;insecurity : Flash's insecurity problem is widely known;SEO unfriendly: websites created in FLASH, precisely because of the way they are created, are almost impossible to position and optimize for search engines ;In one of its communications, Adobe explained how it arrived at that decision:“As open standards like HTML5, WebGL and WebAssembly have matured in recent years, most now provide many of the capabilities and functionality that plugins pioneered and have become a viable alternative for content on the web.Over time, we've seen helper apps evolve to become plugins, and more recently, many of these plugin capabilities have been incorporated into open web standards. Today, most browser vendors are integrating the functionality once provided by plug-ins directly into browsers and deprecating the plug-ins.”
